When people undertake home renovations, they’re typically aiming to upgrade their current living space while also increasing their property’s value.
But not all home improvement projects are created equal. In fact, some upgrades could be off-putting to future home buyers.
When embarking on the road to renovations, consider how others may like and enjoy the modifications, especially if you plan to sell the home in the not-too-distant future.
Overly personalized renovations
Highly customized renovations are not only generally expensive, they’re unlikely to be appreciated by future home buyers who may not share your same tastes. Do you want BRIGHT PURPLE kitchen cabinets but want to sell in a year?
Swimming pools
If you’re worried about resale, resist the urge to put an above-ground swimming pool in your backyard. Even in-ground pools can be tough to get value back out of in our climate!
Trendy designs
Design trends come and go. Your super-trendy renovation project could leave you with a home that will need to be updated again in a few years.
If you’re planning to sell in the not-too-distant future, play it safe with classic styles. When in doubt – ASK us what we think of your reno. We see a LOT of homes and have a good idea what you will see value out of and which ones you won’t.
Disparate finishes
Drastically different and uncoordinated finishes throughout a home is a design no-no equivalent to throwing your money away.
Painting over issues
You want whoever moves into your home to have many years of happiness. When people walk in to your recently renovated home and it’s obvious you cut corners, it puts a bad taste in their mouths on ‘what else’ is hidden.
Would it be helpful if we scheduled a call to discuss some potential renovations you’re considering?
Thanks,
